Injured Marine Runs Entire Boston Marathon Carrying the American Flag

Patriots’ Day in Boston is not only a huge day in sports, but huge across New England for representing what America stands for. Staff Sgt. Jose Luis Sanchez, a retired Marine who lost the lower part of his left leg by stepping on an IED while stationed in Afghanistan, would not be deterred when it came time to run in this year’s Boston Marathon. He wore a Semper Fi Fund shirt and ran on his prosthetic leg while carrying a large American flag for the entire 26.2-mile race (finishing in 5:46:13). Runner’s World reports that he completed the race as a charity member for the Semper Fi Fund, which supports wounded veterans. “I want to recognize veterans and everyone who thinks they can’t do something.”
